OUR STORY

FAMILY RUN. LOCALLY OWNED.

We can build out, up or under, and will work with you to achieve the outcome you want. Whether it’s increasing the number of living spaces (indoors or out), turning small rooms into open-plan living, changing up your kitchen and bathrooms or building separate accommodation for independent teenagers, other family members or the rental market. In fact whatever it is, we’re here to help you create the spaces that are going to make a difference to how you live.
We love transforming homes. From complete makeovers, while respecting the design, character and integrity of the existing space, to just refreshing what’s already there. We’re resourceful, creative and invested in delivering the best possible outcomes.
We aim to have any project we manage finish on schedule, within budget and with good communication maintained across all trades, council instrumentalities and the project’s owner.
Commercial projects managed include: The Villawood Detention Visitors’ Centre, St Bernadette’s Primary School, Castle Hill, Navy Cadets Building, Mackay, Army Cadets Building Mackay, Army Barracks Refurbishment Mt Isa, Conversion of the Army Barracks in Townsville into a Military Museum.
We all know the most important room in the house is the kitchen. It’s the engine room and pivotal hub of our homes. We can help you remodel your kitchen to create a new look, increase its bulk and scale, create more usable space, improve its fit with an existing theme or help create a more contemporary style to accommodate the raft of new cooking appliances available to integrate into benchtops and cabinetry.
Bathrooms are the second most important rooms in the house. We can help you create a design to maximise available space and fit for your budget. It can be as simple as changing cabinetry and tiles, or a complete makeover incorporating new luxury baths and shower spaces, dressing areas and relaxation spaces.
Need space for relatives, guests, a teen retreat or home office, or see an opportunity to capitalise on the ever-increasing demand for weekend or overnight rentals in the Highlands? A granny flat could be the answer while adding value to your property and providing a potential income stream as well. We can help you design a solution by utilising existing space or joining on to your existing home.
Whether it’s refurbishing or extending an existing garage or carport, or changing its usage to incorporate additional living space or home office, we can work with you to achieve the best outcome. We can also create bespoke character-filled designs for sheds, barns, pool houses and more to fit with a rural or residential environment, using new or recycled materials.

From Our Clients

“ShawBuild's expertise and advice in working with heritage properties was invaluable in turning our simple, 1920’s cottage into an inviting family home. Neil and his team designed a floorplan that seamlessly blended the original build with the new extension, creating a layout that perfectly suited modern-day living. ShawBuild’s trades were skilled and respectful, something we very much appreciated since we were living on site while the building works were undertaken.”
“We are extremely happy with the renovation to our property in Burradoo. It came in on budget and within the expected timelines. I would not hesitate to recommend Neil who proved to be both reliable and trustworthy. He is hands-on, always on-site to ensure things went as planned, and often went beyond expectations."
“After a long period living overseas, we returned to the Southern Highlands to renovate a humble cottage in a garden with a lot of potential. It became quickly obvious that Neil was the right fit for our project. From the start, we connected with Neil. He was friendly, collaborative, and genuine and took the time to understand the feeling we wanted to create for our home. He gave us honest advice throughout and shared his opinions rather than telling us what to do.”
“On many occasions, we consulted with Neil about other projects around our property and he was invariably gracious and helpful. Neil’s expertise, particularly with traditional finishes was obvious and he gave us solid advice that we followed. Neil’s knowledge, experience and attention to detail has resulted in an absolutely beautiful space for our family – we love it. It was a pleasure to have Neil and his team working on our home.”
"Neil designed our beautiful addition. There was no architectural plan, no engineering plan, just our ideas about what we wanted. The finished product is everything we imagined and more, and we can’t thank him enough for turning our dream into a reality."
"Neil and his team worked closely with us turning an ugly duckling into one of the most beautiful properties on the street. A project like this is all about the detail at every level, from manufacturing bespoke cornices and joinery to the rejuvenation of century’s old fireplaces and everything in between. Neil knew the ‘how to’ about it all and his team had the skills to make it happen."

“Wow. The pictures tell the story. Rundown, plastic weatherboard-clad dump, transformed into what is now a landmark in town. It takes a builder of great expertise and vision to be able to transform the property in the way ShawBuild has. Thank you!”
