RENOVATION AND EXTENSION

This original 1940’s cottage has been re-interpreted with a contemporary aesthetic. The existing dwelling retains many of its original features including the 1940s laundry, complete with concrete tubs and wood-fired copper,  open fireplace, timber doors and skirtings, pine flooring  and bubble glass windows.  Many of the original multi-pane sliding windows were restored and re-used in the extension to make a connection between the old and the new.  The extension, which incorporates a parents’ retreat, eat-in kitchen, pantry and open-plan lounge/dining area, is sympathetic in design but reflects grander room proportions to the original house. The old and new were unified with a new corrugated iron roof and extensive merbau decks to the front and rear of the house.  A vegetable garden utilising bottomless water tanks and borders of rosemary and lavender, and a rather grand enclosure for the free range chickens completes the country sensibility.

HERITAGE RENOVATION

An original free-standing Victorian terrace was transformed from a near-derelict boarding house back to its former glory as a family home.  Existing floorboards, cedar skirtings, decorative cornices and ceiling roses were maintained and restored where possible.  Where it was not possible, new versions were manufactured to match existing profiles. Original marble fireplaces were restored as were existing windows and doors where possible.   The façade of the terrace and the sandstone fences were restored to an as-new condition, and painting was completed in consultation with a heritage colour consultant. New lace ironwork completed the look.  A nod to the modern era was provided with the installation of smart wiring, under floor heating, gallery lighting, imported architectural door furniture and luxe fittings in the bathrooms.

RENOVATION AND EXTENSION

This pretty acre property, a carve off from a larger property, had improvements which included a neglected clay tennis court, shabby shed and workshop, decrepit stable and a rundown worker’s cottage. The 4000 square metres of dirt are now landscaped with advanced tree planting, hedging plants to the perimeter and secret garden, hard landscaping including arbours, pergolas, and a crazy paved entertaining area, stained garden and road edging and a gravel access roadway.  The cottage has been transformed externally with an expansive covered deck, window awnings, and a repaint of all exterior walls and roof tiles to bed the little house into its lush new gardenscape.  An internal repaint, stripping of original pine floorboards before applying a soft cream lime wash finish, new light fittings, installation of new bathroom cabinetry and a smart new stove, have created a deliciously inviting country cottage, perfect for weekend rental or in-law accommodation. The greasy workshop is now a high-end studio, complete with bathroom, meeting room and open plan work space which includes a kitchen for easy client entertainment.  Next?  The architect designed Master Residence at the rear of the property.

NEW BUILD

A six-acre plot scattered with tall stands of gums, banksias, flannel flowers and other native flora provided the backdrop for this modern four bedroom, four bathroom family home.  Working with the natural contours of existing rock formations was key to anchoring the home into the landscape and resulted in beautiful outlooks from every room.  The curved corrugated iron roof also reflected the gentle contours of the land and provided an opportunity to create impressive curved ceilings throughout the home.  Expansive decking with sharp, interesting angles were a satisfying juxtaposition to the gentle curves of the roofline, and provided an enormous outdoor entertainment area which overlooked the pool, paddocks and pristine bushland beyond.  Surfaces were kept natural with rich timber flooring, stone bench tops and porcelain tiling.
